Loving Pink

Have you ever been a fan of the color pink in some parts of your life?  For me, I didn't like pink colors as a child and while growing up.  I considered it as a sign of weakness. I wanted to be seen as someone tough, and have avoided this color whenever possible.  But as an adult, it has come to me that the color pink has proven to be a sign of strength, bravery and self-belief.  It has now become a symbol of many organizations and foundations that fight for life and what is good.

Go pink!  I've sure become a fan of this color. =)

Thailand

We ate in a fancy restaurant called Cabbages and Condoms.  The place and ambiance was very nice.  You have an option of an indoor fine-dining feel, or an outdoor garden theme.  It reminded me a little of Sonya's Garden in Tagaytay.  Of course we chose the indoors due to the extremely hot weather.  They have elaborate designs and displays of various things made from condom.  Their ultimate goal, I think, for such a themed restaurant is to educate the youth of proper and safe sex.  They also have a foundation that they support, which makes your dining experience here more worthwhile.

The food...good, but the serving is a little small.  Price is also higher than usual Thai restaurants.  Overall, I think that the food is good, although it seems that you pay more for the ambiance and theme of the whole restaurant.  When you visit this place, make sure to walk around and look at all the details; you'll sure to find something interesting.

Melt Me: a gelato stall in Central World mall.  They use Japanese milk in making their gelato, but have recently switched to French milk after the Japan calamity.

My favorite Hokkaido milk from Japan.  They still sell it here, but I didn't try just to be sure.

While waiting for the sky train going to Chatuchak market...  We went there for two consecutive days, until we discovered that Platinum mall is like an airconditioned Chatuchak!  Items and prices are similar.  Quality of products are also better in Platinum mall.  Don't get me wrong... Chatuchak is a very good place to shop for cheap items, but the heat is just tooooooooo much to take.  So if you're okay with hot weather, you might actually find it worth going to.

tom YUM!

I simply have a fascination for spicy food, especially tom yum soup.  From my recent trip to Bangkok, I never let a day pass without having tom yum soup.  Here are some photos for you to imagine. =)

There are usually two basic types of tom yum; one is the clear tom yum, and the other is the tom yum with coconut milk.  Personally, I prefer the one with coconut milk.  It gives the right balance of spices and creaminess.  Yummy!  But the clear tom yum is also good; it just depends on one's personal taste.  For me, the spicier, the better!

(left most, below the metal bowl of rice): tom yum soup with coconut milk from a small Asian restaurant in Frankfurt, Germany

This tom yum from Germany is one of the best I've ever tasted.  I'm not so sure if it was the freezing weather that made it more delicious; but what I can say is that it can very much compete with the tom yums of Thailand.

If you know more yummy tom yum's even from just around the corner, please do let me know. =)
